So it has indeed been quite a long time since I posted here. I have been having a a bit of trouble figuring out what kind of blogger I would like to be. I confess that I like the idea of writing something that is interesting enough that people other than my friends and family would like to read it. This blog, thus far, has been a venting and sharing place for me and while I haven't exactly written about everything that has happened in my little world, I have used this blog to say what is on my mind.
Apart from this, I have had two other secret blogs in which I have been experimenting with subject-specific writings. I haven't shared them with anyone I know because I wanted to see if they would generate any interest from strangers, although so far no-one has even looked at them, as far as I know. I think I was trying to write about what I like to read, and I didn't really have anything new to say. In one blog I attempted to write about my experiences as an expat, but you know... it's all been said somewhere before, and probably more succinctly and descriptively than anything I would write. In another blog, at a time I was despairing of my teenage child, I started to write down all those life lessons which I would love to teach my children, but which they have no time to listen to. I attempted to show the differences between my British upbringing many years ago, and my children's American lives today but really.... even I got bored with that! Those blogs are still online - will you be able to find them, I wonder?
The truth is, that I don't like to write about what I like to do - because I prefer to be doing it instead. I do like to write what's on my mind, but often the only time I have the opportunity to write about what is on my mind is when I have nothing better to do! How can that be interesting? So, I've Twittered, Facebooked, Bloggered and Wordpressed and now I've discovered something new and I think... yes, and I hope that I have finally found something that will work for me. It is Tumblr.
I came across Tumblr quite by chance some time ago and although I'm still learning to navigate it, I like very much that I can connect to Twitter and Facebook, and that it is set up in such a way that I can send little snippets of this and that through the air to land wherever they may. I can do full blog posts, send a link or a photo or a chat and it will channel out to all those other places at a single click. Yes. I think Tumblr will suit me well - and if you are reading this, there is a good chance that you found it through my Twitter or Facebook Tumblr-generated link.
